Aman-i-Khas Ranthambore

Aman-i-Khas, Ranthambore

Aman-i-Khas is a small wilderness camp on the Sherpur side of Ranthambore, close to the park boundary, run by the Aman group. It is one of the most private stays in the area and among the most expensive. We help guests who stay here with safari permits and pickup; the camp itself is not ours.

Location and Safari Access

The camp sits in the countryside near Sherpur rather than on the resort strip, so the drive to the main gates is short and the surroundings feel like the edge of the forest. This makes the morning start comfortable for the core zones. If the forest department allocates one of the outer zones, the gate may be some distance around the park, and we adjust the pickup time to suit. The approach road is rural; ask us or the camp about access during or just after heavy rain.

Rooms and Setting

Accommodation is in a handful of very large tents with high canopies, proper bathrooms and heating and cooling for the extremes of the Rajasthan seasons. The camp is deliberately small, which is the main reason it costs what it does. There is a pool and a spa tent, and the grounds are left open rather than manicured. The camp is seasonal and closes for part of the year, so check the operating dates and the current tariff at the time of booking.

Who It Suits

Guests who want to feel that they are staying in the bush rather than at a hotel, and who are happy to pay for the small scale, are the natural fit. Couples and older travellers are the majority. It is not the right choice if you want a lively resort with other families around, a large restaurant or a low tariff. Wildlife photographers who value a quiet base and quick departures also choose it, though the number of drives you get still depends on the permits we can secure.

Safari Pickup from Aman-i-Khas

The camp runs its own vehicles and naturalists for guests, and many visitors book their drives through it. If you book permits with us instead, our jeep collects you from the camp entrance at the time we send the previous evening, takes you to the allocated gate, and returns you after the drive. Either arrangement works; the important thing is not to book the same slot twice. Tell us if the camp is already handling your safaris so we can limit our role to anything extra.

Dining and Evenings

Meals are taken in the dining tent or outside around a fire in winter, with a menu set by the kitchen rather than a large buffet. Evenings are dark and quiet, which is the point. There are no shops or restaurants within walking distance, so plan on eating at the camp. Ask about early breakfast before the morning safari and whether the kitchen can pack something for the drive.

How to Book a Stay with Safari

Because the camp has few tents and is seasonal, it can sell out well ahead in the winter months. We suggest holding the tent and applying for safari permits at the same time, then confirming both once the forest department issues the permits. Our luxury tiger safari package covers the permit, guide and vehicle side, and we can coordinate with the camp on timing so that you are not chasing two sets of arrangements.

Things to Confirm Before Booking

Confirm the operating season, the current tariff and what it includes, and the cancellation policy in case permits are not allocated for your dates. Ask about transfers from Sawai Madhopur station or Jaipur airport, the minimum stay in peak season, and whether the camp requires you to use its own safari vehicles. Check that the ID on your permit matches the one you will carry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Aman-i-Khas arrange safaris and pickup?

Yes, the camp runs its own vehicles for guests. We can also collect you from the camp if you book permits through us. Tell us which arrangement you prefer so the slot is not booked twice.

Is Aman-i-Khas open all year?

No. It is a seasonal camp and closes for part of the year, generally around the monsoon. Check the current operating dates before you plan around it.

How close is Aman-i-Khas to the safari gate?

It is on the Sherpur side near the park boundary, so the drive to the core-zone gates is short. Outer-zone gates are further around the park; we set the pickup time once your zone is allocated.

Is Aman-i-Khas suitable for families?

It is quiet and adult-oriented by nature. Families with older children can enjoy it, but ask the camp about its child policy first.

What price band is Aman-i-Khas in?

Luxury, at the top of the Ranthambore range. Tariffs vary by season and are best confirmed directly at the time of booking.
