Ranthambore tour from Kolkata

Ranthambore Tour from Kolkata

Kolkata to Ranthambore is one of the longer journeys we plan, and the travel legs deserve more thought than the safaris themselves. Fly to Jaipur or Delhi and let us handle the ground transfer, or take a long-distance train if you have the time. Either way, three nights in the park is the plan we suggest for Bengal travellers.

Kolkata to Ranthambore by Air via Jaipur

Jaipur is the nearest airport to the park, approximately 160 to 180 km away. Flights from Kolkata to Jaipur take roughly 2.5 hours when direct, and the road transfer to Sawai Madhopur is approximately 3 to 3.5 hours. This is the shortest door-to-door option. If you catch a morning flight, an evening safari on the same day is realistic, provided the permit has been booked in advance and the flight is on time.

Kolkata to Ranthambore via Delhi

Delhi has far more flight frequencies from Kolkata, which can make it cheaper or better timed. From Delhi you can take a train to Sawai Madhopur, roughly 4 to 5 hours, or drive approximately 380 km in about 6 hours. The train is comfortable and frequent, but seats on the convenient departures go quickly, so fix the rail leg the day you book your flight. Overall the Delhi route is a little longer than Jaipur but often more flexible.

Long-Distance Trains from Kolkata

A few long-distance services from the Kolkata area pass through Sawai Madhopur on routes toward Rajasthan and western India, though not every day and not on every route. Journey times are well over a day, so this suits travellers who enjoy the train and want to save the air fare. Check current schedules and days of operation, and tell us your arrival time so the station pickup and the first safari line up.

Suggested 3-Night Plan

Day 1: morning flight to Jaipur, road transfer, check in, evening safari. Day 2: morning safari, rest, evening safari. Day 3: morning safari, then Ranthambore Fort and the lakeside pavilions in the afternoon. Day 4: optional early safari, breakfast, drive to Jaipur and fly home. If you would rather see Jaipur, spend the last night there instead of taking the fourth safari; Amber Fort and the old city fit into one day.

Safaris and Permits

Every safari is a separate permit issued by the forest department for a fixed date and slot, with zones allocated at booking. We recommend three permits for a three-night stay and four if you would rather skip the fort. Shared jeep seats are approximately Rs 2,200 to 2,500 per Indian visitor and canter seats approximately Rs 1,500 to 1,600, subject to revision. No safari guarantees a sighting; more drives across more zones is the only honest way to improve the odds.

What the Package Includes

For Kolkata travellers the package we quote usually covers the hotel in Sawai Madhopur, all safari permits and the vehicle, pickup at Jaipur airport or Sawai Madhopur station, hotel-to-gate transfers, and slot coordination against your flight or train. Flights and trains can be added on request. We quote on enquiry rather than publishing a fixed price, because hotel category, safari count, jeep versus canter and the season all move the number.

Best Months and Cost Drivers

October to March is the comfortable season, with cold mornings in December and January, so carry a warm layer for the open jeep. April and May are hot but productive around the lakes. The park core is closed during the monsoon. Costs peak in the Puja holidays, the December break and long weekends, when flights and permits both run short. Air fare is the single biggest cost driver from Kolkata, followed by hotel category and safari count.
