Ranthambore Navratri Diwali trip

Ranthambore for Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali 2026

The core zones reopen on 1 October, and the festival weeks that follow are among the busiest of the year, especially for families from Gujarat, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Delhi. Navratri runs from 11 to 19 October 2026, Dussehra is on 20 October and Diwali on 8 November. Permits, trains and hotels all sell out early, so this page is about booking in the right order.

What the Park Is Like in October and November

The forest is still green after the monsoon and the lakes are full, so the scenery is at its best but tigers are harder to spot than in the dry months. Days are warm at around 30 to 34°C, mornings and evenings are pleasant, and the cold of December has not set in. Festival visitors should treat this as a scenery and wildlife trip with a fair chance of a sighting, not a guarantee.

Book in This Order

First fix your travel dates. Second, book safari permits, because these are issued per date and slot and are the first thing to sell out. Third, confirm the hotel. Fourth, book trains or flights, which also fill early around Navratri and Diwali. If your dates are tied to a festival, send us the request as soon as you can; we can check permit availability across zones and slots in one go.

Jeep or Canter in a Busy Week

A shared jeep seat is approximately Rs 2,200 to 2,500 per Indian visitor and a canter seat approximately Rs 1,500 to 1,600, subject to revision. In festival weeks canter seats are easier to find for larger families, while a full private jeep suits a group of up to six and gives a calmer drive. Canters carry up to 20 people, which is fine for groups but louder.

A Festival-Week 3-Night Plan

Day 1: arrive, check in, evening safari if your permit allows. Day 2: morning safari, a long lunch and rest, Ranthambore Fort and Trinetra Ganesh Temple in the afternoon. Day 3: morning and evening safaris in different zones. Day 4: optional early safari, breakfast and departure. Visiting the fort temple during a festival week is a good fit and is best done before the afternoon crowds.

Travelling from Gujarat and West Bengal

Gujarat families usually come by train on the western trunk line, from Ahmedabad, Vadodara or Surat. Families from Kolkata fly to Jaipur or Delhi and continue by road or rail. Both groups should confirm the travel leg before booking the stay, because the long-distance options are limited and fill earliest.

Food and Comfort for Festival Travellers

Many families fast during Navratri. Hotels in Sawai Madhopur can usually arrange vegetarian, Jain and Navratri-style meals if told in advance, and we pass this on when we book. Carry water, sun protection and a light layer for early mornings; the open jeep is cooler than it looks at dawn.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ranthambore open during Navratri?

Yes. The core zones reopened on 1 October and safaris run daily through Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali, subject to forest department rules.

Do safari permits sell out in festival weeks?

Often yes, especially weekends and the days around Dussehra and Diwali. Book permits first, then the hotel and travel.

Can I get a vegetarian or Jain meal at the hotel?

Yes, most hotels arrange it on request. Tell us when you book so we can pass it on.

Will I see a tiger in October or November?

It is possible but less likely than in the dry months, because the forest is green and tigers are not tied to a few waterholes. More drives across more zones improves the odds.

How early should I book for Diwali?

As early as your dates are fixed. The weeks around Diwali are among the first to sell out.
