Sher Bagh Ranthambore

SUJÁN Sher Bagh, Ranthambore

SUJÁN Sher Bagh is a luxury tented camp at Sherpur-Khiljipur, on the park side of Ranthambore, built in the style of the old campaign camps. It has a long association with wildlife conservation in the area. We do not operate the camp; we help guests staying there with safari permits, guides and pickup.

Location and Safari Access

Sher Bagh is on the Sherpur-Khiljipur side, in farmland close to the park boundary, rather than on the Ranthambore Road strip. From here the drive to the core-zone gates is short, which makes the pre-dawn morning start less punishing. For outer zones the gate may be further around the park and the pickup time moves earlier; we confirm this once the forest department allocates your zone. The lanes into the camp are rural, so allow a little extra time on the first arrival.

Rooms and Setting

The tents are the traditional canvas kind with hardwood furniture, proper beds and en-suite bathrooms, laid out under trees around a central mess tent and pool. It is a camp rather than a resort, and the atmosphere is closer to a well-run field station than a hotel. The camp is seasonal and shuts for the monsoon months, reopening around the time the core zones do. Room categories, inclusions and the current tariff should be confirmed with the camp at the time of booking.

Who It Suits

Guests who are in Ranthambore first and foremost for the wildlife, and who want the stay to match that interest, are the natural fit. The camp attracts serious safari-goers, photographers and couples who enjoy the camp style. It suits families with children old enough to enjoy the drives and the outdoors. If you want a large pool, room service and a wide buffet, one of the deluxe resorts on Ranthambore Road will suit you better.

Safari Pickup from Sher Bagh

The camp has its own naturalists and vehicles and most guests book drives through it as part of the stay. If you have booked permits with us, our jeep collects you from the camp entrance at the time we send the evening before, handles the gate formalities and returns you after the drive. Tell us in advance whether the camp is handling your safaris so we do not duplicate a slot. Either way the permit itself comes from the forest department, not from the camp or from us.

Dining and Evenings

Meals are served in the mess tent or outdoors, and in winter the evening is spent around a fire. The kitchen works to a set menu rather than a buffet, and the atmosphere is sociable, with guests often comparing notes from the day's drives. There is nothing within walking distance in the way of shops or restaurants, so plan to eat at the camp. Ask about early breakfast and packed refreshments for the morning slot.

How to Book a Stay with Safari

Hold the tent and let us apply for permits at the same time, then confirm both once the permits are issued. Winter weekends and the Christmas to New Year period sell out early at the camp and are also the hardest weeks for permits, so start well ahead. Our luxury tiger safari package covers permits, guide and vehicle for guests staying here, and we coordinate timing with the camp so the morning is simple.

Things to Confirm Before Booking

Check the operating dates, the current tariff and what it includes, the child policy and the cancellation terms against the risk of permits not coming through. Ask about transfers from Sawai Madhopur station and whether the camp expects guests to use its own safari vehicles. Make sure the name and ID on your permit match what you will carry to the gate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Sher Bagh arrange safaris and pickup?

Yes, the camp has its own vehicles and naturalists. We can also collect you from the camp if you book permits with us. Tell us which you prefer so the same slot is not booked twice.

When is Sher Bagh open?

It is a seasonal camp, closed during the monsoon and open for the main safari season. Confirm the exact dates for the year you are travelling.

Is Sher Bagh close to the safari gates?

It is near the park boundary on the Sherpur side, so core-zone gates are a short drive. Outer-zone gates are further around the park and need an earlier pickup.

Is Sher Bagh good for families?

It works well for families with children old enough to enjoy safari drives and the outdoors. Ask the camp about its child policy and tent arrangements before booking.

Jeep or canter from Sher Bagh?

Guests here almost always book a private jeep for the smaller group and the flexibility it gives. A canter seat is possible but not typical for this style of stay.
