Ranthambore tour from Ahmedabad

Ranthambore Tour from Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad to Ranthambore is a long but well-trodden route, and most Gujarat families we host come by train. The journey needs one honest planning decision up front: overnight rail, a two-day drive with a stop, or a flight to Jaipur followed by a road transfer. This page lays out all three so you can choose the one that fits your dates.

Ahmedabad to Ranthambore by Train

Rail is the option we suggest first. Some long-distance services from Ahmedabad run overnight toward Kota and Sawai Madhopur, so you board in the evening and arrive the next morning without losing a day. Not every service runs daily and some stop only at Kota, from where Sawai Madhopur is approximately 110 km by road. Check current schedules on the railway website before you fix dates, and tell us your arrival time so we can align the pickup and the first safari.

Ahmedabad to Ranthambore by Road

Driving is approximately 600 km or more depending on the route, which is too long for one comfortable day with a safari at the end. Most people break the journey at Udaipur, which turns the trip into a heritage-plus-wildlife holiday, or at Jaipur if they want to come in from the north. Either way, plan the drive so that you reach Sawai Madhopur by mid-afternoon on the day before your first safari. Night driving on rural stretches is best avoided.

Ahmedabad to Ranthambore by Air

There is no airport at Sawai Madhopur. The nearest is Jaipur, approximately 160 to 180 km away, roughly 3 to 3.5 hours by road. Flights between Ahmedabad and Jaipur are short, and we can arrange a car to meet you at the airport. This is the fastest combination if your leave is limited, though the air fare plus transfer usually makes it the most expensive of the three. A morning flight can put you in Sawai Madhopur in time for an evening safari.

Suggested Day-by-Day Plan

Day 1: board the overnight train from Ahmedabad, or fly to Jaipur and drive down. Day 2: arrive Sawai Madhopur, check in, rest, and take the evening safari. Day 3: morning safari, a late breakfast, Ranthambore Fort or the lakeside pavilions in the afternoon, and an evening safari if you want a third drive. Day 4: morning safari, check out, and return by train or via Jaipur. Two nights work if you only need two safaris, but three nights are easier on the body after a long journey.

How Many Safaris to Book

We suggest three safaris for a three-night trip and two for a two-night trip. Each safari is a separate permit issued by the forest department, and zones are allocated at booking time, so the more drives you take the more of the park you see. No zone or drive guarantees a tiger sighting; the honest way to raise your chances is to book more slots, not to chase a single zone. Shared jeep seats are approximately Rs 2,200 to 2,500 per Indian visitor and canter seats approximately Rs 1,500 to 1,600, subject to revision.

What a Package from Ahmedabad Includes

Our package quote covers the hotel stay in Sawai Madhopur, the safari permits and vehicle, pickup from the railway station or Jaipur airport, transfers between the hotel and the park gate, and help lining up your train or flight timings with the safari slots. Meals depend on the hotel plan you choose. We do not publish a headline package price because it moves with the hotel category, the number of safaris, jeep versus canter, and the season. Send us your dates and group size and we quote the same day.

Best Months and Cost Drivers

The park is open from October to June, and the core zones close in the monsoon. Gujarat travellers usually prefer October to March for the pleasant weather; April and May are hot but sightings around water often improve. Costs rise in the December holidays and around Diwali, when hotels and permits both get tight. The biggest variables are your travel mode, hotel category, jeep or canter, and the number of safaris, roughly in that order.

It is approximately 600 km or more and not a drive we recommend in one stretch. Break at Udaipur or Jaipur and arrive fresh for the safari.

Three nights is the comfortable choice given the travel time. It gives you three safaris and a slow afternoon for the fort without rushing.

What is the safari cost per person?
