Golden Triangle with Ranthambore

Golden Triangle with Ranthambore

The classic Delhi, Agra and Jaipur circuit becomes a much better trip when you add two nights of tiger safaris between Agra and Jaipur. Ranthambore sits almost on the line between the two, so the detour costs little in travel time. Here is the 6 to 7 day route we plan for guests, with the safaris booked around the fixed park slots.

Route Overview

The tour runs Delhi to Agra by road, Agra to Sawai Madhopur by train or road, and Ranthambore to Jaipur by road, finishing with a flight or a drive back to Delhi. Delhi to Agra is approximately 230 km, roughly 3.5 to 4 hours on the expressway. Agra to Sawai Madhopur is approximately 280 km by road; trains on the Bharatpur and Sawai Madhopur line take roughly 4 to 5 hours. Ranthambore to Jaipur is approximately 160 to 180 km, about 3 to 3.5 hours.

Day-by-Day Plan

Day 1: arrive Delhi, old and new city sights. Day 2: drive to Agra, Agra Fort in the afternoon. Day 3: Taj Mahal at sunrise, then train or road to Sawai Madhopur, evening safari if timings allow. Day 4: morning and evening safaris. Day 5: morning safari, Ranthambore Fort, drive to Jaipur. Day 6: Amber Fort, City Palace, the observatory and the bazaars. Day 7: fly out of Jaipur or drive back to Delhi. Dropping the Delhi sightseeing day makes it six.

The Agra to Ranthambore Leg

This is the one connection people worry about, and it is easier than it looks. Several trains run from Agra through Bharatpur to Sawai Madhopur; a late-morning departure after the sunrise Taj visit reaches the park by afternoon. Check current schedules, since the convenient services are not all daily. By road the drive is approximately 5 to 6 hours and lets you stop at Keoladeo in Bharatpur in winter. We meet you at Sawai Madhopur station or send the car to your Agra hotel.

How the Safari Permits Fit

Every safari is a separate permit from the forest department, issued for a fixed date, slot and zone. Zones are allocated at booking, so we secure the permits as soon as your Agra train is fixed. Two nights give you an evening drive on arrival, a full day with two drives, and a morning drive before Jaipur. Shared jeep seats are approximately Rs 2,200 to 2,500 per Indian visitor and canter seats approximately Rs 1,500 to 1,600, subject to revision. No sighting is guaranteed.

Best Season

October to March is the season that works for all four stops: cool enough to walk Agra and Jaipur in the afternoon and comfortable in an open jeep at dawn. December and January mornings are cold on safari, so carry a jacket. April and May are hot in the cities but often good for sightings in the park. The park core closes during the monsoon, so the circuit without Ranthambore is the only version in July to September.

What Is Included on Enquiry

We quote the full circuit or just the Ranthambore leg, whichever you prefer. A full quote covers hotels in each city, a private car with driver for the road legs, train tickets on the Agra to Sawai Madhopur line, safari permits and vehicles, hotel-to-gate transfers, and a local guide in Agra and Jaipur if you want one. Monument tickets and meals are itemised separately. Pricing depends on hotel category, group size, the number of safaris, and the season, so we send a line-item quote.

Who This Tour Suits

First-time visitors to India who want the famous monuments and a real wildlife stop in one week, families with children old enough for early starts, and overseas guests with limited days. It is less suited to travellers who want three or more days in the park; for them we suggest the Agra and Ranthambore pairing or a dedicated wildlife trip instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days do I need for the Golden Triangle with Ranthambore?

Six at a minimum, seven if you want a full day in Delhi. Two nights in the park is the sensible allocation.

How do I get from Agra to Ranthambore?

By train on the Bharatpur and Sawai Madhopur line, roughly 4 to 5 hours, or by road in approximately 5 to 6 hours. Check current train schedules.

Can I see the Taj Mahal and reach Ranthambore the same day?

Yes. A sunrise visit followed by a late-morning train gets you to Sawai Madhopur by afternoon. The Taj is closed on Fridays, so plan around that.

How many safaris are included?

Usually two or three across two nights. Each is a separate permit and zones are allocated by the forest department at booking.

Is the tour priced as a package?

We quote on enquiry for the full circuit or just the Ranthambore leg, based on hotels, group size, safaris and season.
