Ranthambore in October

Ranthambore Safari in October 2026

October is the month Ranthambore wakes up again. The core zones reopen on 1 October after the monsoon closure, the forest is at its greenest, the lakes are full and the park is quiet before the winter rush. Days are still warm, so this is a month for scenery, birds and fewer vehicles at a sighting rather than for guaranteed tigers. The Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali dates are the exception: those weeks are busy with families from Gujarat, West Bengal and across north India.

Weather in October

Expect about 20 to 34°C: warm afternoons, pleasant mornings and clear skies once the last monsoon clouds clear. The first week can still bring humidity or a shower. Mornings are comfortable in an open jeep without heavy clothing, though a light layer is useful at dawn in the second half of the month.

Wildlife in October

The forest is thick and water is available everywhere, so tigers are not tied to the lakes and sightings take more patience than in the dry months. Birdlife is rich as migratory species start arriving at the lakes and at Surwal Lake outside the park. Sambar, chital and crocodiles are reliable. Plan two or three safaris rather than one, because a single drive in dense forest can easily end without a tiger.

October Safari Timings

Both vehicles run two slots in October: the morning safari from 6.30 AM to 10.00 AM and the evening safari from 2.30 PM to 6.00 PM. Reporting time is earlier than the start, and pickup from a Ranthambore Road hotel is usually well before sunrise. The schedule changes on 1 November, so a trip that straddles the month needs the right timings for each date.

Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali Dates

Navratri runs 11 to 19 October 2026 and Dussehra falls on 20 October, with Diwali on 8 November. These weeks bring heavy demand for both permits and hotels, mostly from Gujarat and West Bengal, so rooms near the park fill early. Our festival trip planner covers the dates, routes and what to book first.

Booking Notes for October

Permits for October to December 2026 were released in the 1 August advance window, so many popular dates and slots are already taken. That does not mean the month is sold out: cancellations, mixed-zone availability and weekdays often leave seats. Send your dates, slot and a fallback date and we will check what is open for jeep or canter before you pay anything.

Who Should Visit in October

October suits visitors who want green scenery, birds and photography with fewer crowds, and families travelling during the festival holidays. If seeing a tiger is the only goal and you can choose any month, the dry months from April to June offer better odds. If you do come in October, give yourself two or three safaris and a spare day.
