Ranthambore in February
February is the best all-round month in Ranthambore for most visitors. The cold of January eases, days are dry and pleasant, the forest begins to thin, and there are no major national holidays to crowd the park. Weekdays are noticeably easier to book than in December or January. Permits for February 2027 open on 1 November 2026 at 12 noon.

Expect about 9 to 12°C at dawn and mid to high 20s in the afternoon. Mornings are still cool enough for a jacket in the first hour, but fog is rare by now. Rain is unusual. It is comfortable weather for families, older visitors and anyone who finds the January cold or the April heat hard.
As the month goes on the grass dries and leaves start to fall, so visibility improves zone by zone. Tigers still use the open tracks in the cool mornings, and sightings become more frequent towards the end of the month. Migratory birds are still at the lakes in the first half of February, and it is a good month for leopards and sloth bears in the hillier zones.
From 1 February the morning safari moves earlier to 6.30 to 10.00 AM and the evening safari moves later to 2.30 to 6.00 PM, following the longer days. If your hotel is outside town, allow for an earlier pickup than in January.
February has no long national weekend in 2027, so Saturdays are busy but weekdays are the easiest peak-season dates of the whole winter. Maha Shivratri falls on Saturday 6 March, just after the month ends. If your dates are flexible, a Tuesday to Thursday stay in February gives the best chance of getting both your preferred slot and vehicle.
A light jacket or fleece for the morning drive, a cap and sunscreen for the afternoon. Muted colours such as khaki, olive or grey. Carry water on both safaris; the dust rises as the forest dries.
