Dev Vilas is a heritage-style hotel on Ranthambore Road, built in a traditional Rajasthani manner with courtyards, carved stone and gardens, without being an old building. It sits in the deluxe to luxury band. We are a local safari team and not part of the hotel; we help its guests with permits and pickup.
Dev Vilas is on the Ranthambore Road corridor, which is the most straightforward stretch for a safari pickup because our vehicles pass along it on the way to the gates. The morning start for a core-zone slot is short and predictable. Outer-zone gates sit further around the park, and we set the pickup earlier once the forest department allocates the zone. Sawai Madhopur station is a reasonable drive in the other direction, so train arrivals are simple.
The hotel is designed in the style of a Rajasthani haveli or small palace, with jharokha windows, courtyards and a pool set in gardens. Rooms are large and traditionally decorated, and several categories exist from standard rooms up to suites. The atmosphere is that of a heritage hotel without the maintenance quirks of a genuinely old building. Check the current tariff and the room category you are being offered at the time of booking.
Couples and families who want a comfortable, traditional-looking base with a pool, and travellers who are combining Ranthambore with Jaipur, Udaipur or Jodhpur and want the stays to feel consistent. It suits guests who prefer a proper hotel to a tented camp. If you want the wilderness feel of the Sherpur side, or the simplest possible budget stay, look elsewhere. Small groups travelling together also find the layout convenient.
We collect guests from the porch at the time sent the evening before. Carry the ID used for the permit; the gate checks it. The vehicle takes you to the allocated gate, the guide handles entry, and the same jeep or canter returns you after the drive. The hotel also has a travel desk that can arrange safaris, so tell us if that is already done and we will avoid booking the same slot twice.
Meals are served in the restaurant and, in winter, in the courtyard or garden. The menu is Indian and continental, and the hotel sometimes stages folk music in the evening for guests. Ranthambore Road has a few outside restaurants and shops within a short drive if you want a change. Ask about early breakfast or a packed box before the morning safari and lunch timing between the two slots.
